Good feeling movie

As popular as Sally Field, James Garner, and even Corey Haim are it's a surprise no one has bothered to leave a comment in the forum. Well....I must say that this is one of my mom's favourite movies. She got me hooked on it just recently. When it's a blizzard outside and I just want to curl up and watch something with a cup of hot chocolate, I'll pop in this DVD and enjoy myself.

YES i agree with you this film is appealing to all ages and you can watch it any time of any season and take in the story line, i myself came to this film back in dec to check on Amos Abbott the old guy played by charactor actor Charles Lane who in theory is celebrating his 105th birthday on the 26th of jan but it was changed to the IMDB source which originally said he was born 1-26-1899 now its 1-26-1905 , now in natural life being 99 and 105 is a big difference and in the film he played much older than he was suppose to be, i say lets contact Mr Garner and say do you know how old he is and the answer would be i thought he went long ago say after the film came out in 85.

Bottom line is this the movie gets a 3/4 fine acting by entire cast.

I thought this movie was great I'm actually watching it right now.

This is a lovely underrated film that never got the attention it merited. A warm and winning romantic comedy with charismatic performances by the leads, especially Garner, who has never been more appealing onscreen in the performance that earned him his very first and only Oscar nomination.

Wish we had a blizzard here....but this is one of the best movies out there for when you feel down to get a pick me up.....

i was put off by the car chases and gun battles, but, otherwise, the movie had a lot of heart and charm.

I'm assuming you mean that you missed the car chases and gun battles.
This is a marvelous movie, not only for the story but for the place. Living in a small city all my life, I would love to live in a place like this......although Florence, where it was filmed, is probably a lot bigger now. Beautiful places always grow and this movie must have made a few people at least check into moving there. I would have loved to have that choice.

Haven't seen this movie in a while, but it's one I'll watch every time I come across it on TV. Love the script, the dialogue, and the performances. Murphy is a great character. It's a lovely, unassuming little movie.

Oh dear, you men do get into such a state about 'the midlands', don't you?

Mary,

I wouldn't bet on that, although "a lot bigger" is relative. I just poked around on the Internet and found the following site: http://www.city-data.com/city/Florence-Arizona.html. If you scroll down aways, you'll come to a graph called "Historical Population." The population in 1985 looks to be around 6,000 (when the movie was filmed there). The 2000 census reported a population of 17,054, which matches the graph, and shows a flat line to 2005. So the population had tripled in 20 years, but at roughly 20,000, it's still tiny! I'm a native of Tucson, and lived most of my life there and in various parts of Arizona, Nevada and southern California before moving to Miami, Florida (don't ask). I've driven through Florence A LOT because it's a nicer drive from Tucson to Phoenix than via I-10, and it hasn't changed much over the years that I can see. The huge Arizona State Prison is located there and is the largest employer, and that may have something to do with why the population hasn't exploded. Also, the summers are brutally hot and dry, but you can't beat the winters! The AZ National Guard has a huge gunnery range located near there, to the north of the prison--my dad served with them as an artillery officer for quite a few years in the 1950's.

But you're right, it's a great little town!

My mother lives in Tucson and I lived in the Vegas Valley for 4 years during the 60's. But if it hasn't changed that much, it would be a grand place to live. Thanks for all the information. :)

Yes, she loves AZ much more than Indiana where we always lived. I envy her, but since neither of us has any money to spare, have not seen each other for many years. That's why I love Murphey's Romance....because I like to think how nice it would be to be out there. :)

exactly what i wanted to say! i loved murphy's attitude, he made me smile throughout the entire movie... (i admit i know james garner the best from the notebook, and he's much older there, so seeing him when he's 20 years younger is a litte eery, but i fell in love with his portrayal of murphy. i'm usually not a fan of a couple where one person is much older, but i have to say i really didn't think about it much. this movie really charmed me) :)

I recall going to this with three other friends. It was so monumentally dull we all left after about 45 minutes. That was 25 years ago and the memory is still painful.

I assume you were young then, why not watch it again and see if you appreciate it now that you're (hopefully) a little more mature? Time can lend perspective, Y'know?
