just out of curiosity....

Isn't it funny how when the ex-hubby leaves with Wanda, Wanda is holding one son in her arms and he's driving away with the other twin in his arms. As far back as I can remember you've always needed a car seat for babies. I know that now you also need a booster seat but it's interesting how they drove off with their kids like that. Also makes you wonder how she made it from Oklahoma to Arizona with twins.

What can we say? Jack is a jerk!

Ha! It's funny you mentioned that, I freaked when I saw that! I was like "put that baby in a car seat crazy man!"

She must have had seats for them because at Emma's, she puts one of them down in one to change the other one. Of course, driving back roads out west in the 80's in a truck, there might have not been any fear of getting caught. And you guys are right.....Bobby Jack is a jerk.

I'm old enough to remember when we didn't even have to wear seat belts as kids...we even used to crawl around in the back of the station wagon while the adults were driving.

Don't remember exactly the cut off date for car seats becoming mandatory. For some reason I'm feeling like this movie was right around then.

On the other hand, even before seat belts and such it was considered stupid to drive with a baby on your lap. It restricted your reaction time.

We had to have a car seat in CA in Jan of 1983 I believe. We were buying equipment for our 1st born and had to consider a car seat because either the law had been passed and it came into effect the following January or it was already the law. The car seat my parents had for me was downright dangerous. It hooked over the back of the front seat and was more like a doll carriage in its safety value. My legs hung down between them. A car they bought in 1963 came with optional seat belts and radio. My parents opted out of both of those options. No AC either. We also rode in the backs of pickup trucks like in the movie. Now that is illegal also. No seat belts in the bed of the truck.

Car seats were made mandatory in the US from 1978-1985. Arizona likely was one of the last states to require them. It easily could have been still legal there while filming.

Did yours have a steering wheel attached to the front bar like mine did? I used to mimic dad's every move in that thing!

I had that same car seat in 57 and I sat in the front seat next to my dad with my sunglasses.

In 86 when my oldest was born we had to have a carseat to take her home from the hospital, our hospital gave you a free seat when your kid was born there.

Car seats weren't mandatory until 1985, the year this movie was made.

That's redneck families for you.
