Guys: Are you a "Gene" or a "Jonathon"?

It's a goof question but why not?

reply

I'm a me.

reply

Oh, I'm totally a Jonathon (except, hopefully not as much of a jerk as he is!)

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

How was he a jerk? Everyone did jerky things.

He sees Marilyn as less of a person and more of a sex toy. He doesn't care at all about her personal feelings (the car and sex scene) and just wants to experience sexual pleasure.

He's an immature idiot at the start and turns into a real creep throughout the course of the film.

reply

Gene is just as creepy and most guys who use girls for sex. "Men fake relationships to have orgasms; women fake orgasms to have relationships." You can't respect women who give up sex easily. Men cheat themselves and women thinking they can have a slut and a virgin or create a committed relationship based upon casual sex and living together so marriage means nothing.

reply

Women are as much to blame for cheating themselves and men. Marilyn didn't communicate her feelings and needs so how is he insensitive? She could have been more assertive and said "we're not having sex unless you have a condom" or "stop, you're banging by head against the bed board" or "get out before you're past the point of no return," Then she tried to get back at him by suggestimg it wasn't her first time. I think she was lying based on her inexperience and she took a minute to realize he had an orgasm even when he cries out and stops moving. It's more complex than saying he is a jerk. Everyone did dumb jerky things.

reply

So she should have been more "assertive" considering she explicitly tells him in the car scene to stop and repeatedly reminds him to pull out during sex? I just saw it as a contrivance of the script to make Marilyn out to be shallow when Jonathan's the one whose just interested in having sex with her. I feel like you're really grasping for straws here.

My whole issue is that there's no reason for Marilyn and Jonathan to even be together as it's never explained how this runty obnoxious idiot is able to win over one of the hottest girls at his school and bed her. They just get together because the script says so.
