The catchphrase "20 minutes into the future" is based upon Psalm 90:4 "For you, a thousand years are as a passing day ..." (NLT).

Therefore, if a thousand years is one day in the life of God, then we are going "20 minutes into the future"

20 minutes in this context equates to approximately 28.8 years in our timeframe. So, since the story line was delivered in 1984-1985 time frame, then the story is set approximately in the year 2012 or 2013.
