Is this officially a softcore porn, or is it just being labeled as one?

Having just recently finished watching the classic Garbo version, I thought it would be neat to watch this one and compare. As a kid, I remember my parents having the video, and I remember thinking it looked like an "adult movie" but I later reasoned that it is simply an exotic story that is appropriately rated R, like a lot of mature subject movies. In other words, while I was expecting sex scenes in this (esp. after reading some of the comments here), I thought it was just part of the movie, but didn't think it defined it. You know, like any grown-up film w/ a sex-scene...no biggie, right? That's what I thought, until I saw the trailer for it a day ago!

Like a fool, I shared the trailer on Facebook, to let other movie fans know about this version, because I thought that while "pushing the envelope" maybe, that it was still a respectable film---why else would MGM lend its logo to it, right? Wrong! After posting the trailer (which was like a mini porno itself) with a warning to my Facebook friends, I deleted it a little while later, after realizing that the "star" of the film is a bona-fide soft-core porno actress! Yikes!

Now, don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no problem with porn (esp. softcore) as long as the people involved practice safe sex and it is done with some sort of class, if that's possible and as long as there are clean standards...like some of the oldies from the 70s...I have no beef with them. They are fine. But, I think those involved need to make a choice---be a porn star or a mainstream star, but not both! And, that's what grads my nerves about this MATA HARI---the fact that, apparently, that porn-star was, in a sense, attempting to go mainstream. I'm not sure exactly why, but something about that really bothers me...like I was being fooled or something. Porn stars of any type should never be in any mainstream films. That's just the way I feel about it. It's not because I have a problem with them per se, but it's more about the idea that there's a place for everything and everything in its place.

So, I just want to know---is this officially a porn---meaning, is that what it was made to be? Or, is that just the image it has been dealt, over the years? I would like to think I didn't get duped into putting a porno in the same category as a legit movie-classic. Sigh...

The actress Sylvia Kristel wasn't a porn star. She did plenty of nude scenes & what would be called soft core but she didn't do porn.

MyMovieTVRomance - what a bizarre handle for someone trolling IMDB with pro-Donald Trump propaganda.

Sad to see you also trolling the late Sylvia Kristel - who was an actor not a porn star.

Only a troll would come right out and accuse someone with a genuine question of being a troll---and make other false claims too. Howdy, troll! How very unfortunate to make your trollish acquaintance!
