thanks for this. that's the photo from the people weekly article back in 1985. that's a friend from summer camp.

im not saying this to be cruel but if that was a picture from the summer camp full of blind children then why would they bother taking a photo? she's never going to see it

Maybe Rocky Dennis wanted to see it. And that friend in the photo was perhaps not blind either. Besides, blind people do pose for photos - not for their own benefit, but often for the benefit of others.

First time ever seeing this pic as well.....in all honesty, he didn't look all that bad. Unusual, sure but not nearly as horrific as alot of facial deformities I've seen. And yea, you can tell by his expression that he was a pretty happy well adjusted kid. In regards to his hands, it probably is due to his affliction.

It was probably the first time he ever touched a girl, of course he had a huge smile on his face! He looked like the devil when he threw that kid into the locker!

Uh, no. There was no real Diana. Seeing that picture, though, it makes me realize how nice of a job they did on Stoltz's makeup. He and the real Rocky Dennis look quite similar.

What amazes me is how fast his disease changed his appearance. There is a high school picture of him and it's almost like two different people.

Thats a great pic i cant beleive how alike they made Stoltz look. Must have been really painfull having your head grow like that. it looks like his hand is overgrown too or is that just me.

Yeah, his head looks bigger than what is in the movie. The hand also looks huge in relation to his arm. I'm not sure if it's due to the same condition or something else.

A bit disturbing when you first look at it, but if you stare at him for a while, it's not so bad after all.

I think most of us would've liked to have been friends with him.

I agree 100%! I thought that when watching the film too. The longer I watched Rocky in the film, the less "unusual" he looked. If his attitude was as great as depicted in the film, he would have been a fun guy to be friends with.
What age was he in that photo? He looks younger than a high school guy.

I totally agree with those that said you can get used to the size of his head. I have that picture blown up and hanging in my office to the left of my computer screen. I basically see it all the time and he does almost look normal. People that come in and see it for the first time are startled, but after they see it a couple of times, the do not even mention it.

I wonder if Ben ever faced ridicule for being Rocky's friend, kids can be cruel.
