She left an abusive marriage and made something of herself by earning a University degree and getting good employment with the American justice department. Too bad a political scandal eventually made things tough on her.

Just watched it tonight on Turner Classic and was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish. Excellent acting from all the leads. I also got a kick out of the supporting actors; a young Morgan Freeman (in a rare "bad guy" role), Fred Thompson playing himself, and the fat gas station attendant with one line, who I knew I had seen in something else. Took me a few minutes to recall him as Ace (Jerry Rushing) the shady used car dealer from "The Dukes of Hazzard" episode 'Repo Men'.
