Why Tina Turner?

I remember how disappointed I was when I first heard Tina Turner would be in this film in spite of next to no acting experience. Does anyone know specifically why she was chosen?

Yes, I'm aware she had a huge album before they started filming, and her videos were all over MTV. Did they just want a "celeb"?

She puts on the film of him: King is white and in the crowd...

Plus she was awesome.

the deal prob went something like this

"Yes I'll do your soundtrack...only if I get an onscreen role"

She was prob paid for the music and acted for "free"

its a negotiation tactic only the top 1% can really levy.

Plus 10 years earlier she was in "Tommy" so he acting wasnt a major risk.

She was awesome! Her facial expressions were spot on. She owned that role. I thought she was great.

She was actually okay. I was surprised by her performance.

reply

I thought she owned this role.

Good to see people showing some love for her performance. A more talented actress would have made a silly character even more ridiculous.

After seeing this as a kid we always had wrestling matches in the neighborhood with everyone chanting “Two man enter, one man leave!” 😁

Find me a female who'd been this hot in chainmail circa 1985.

You can't.

reply

Thank you. Tina Turner is a freaking FORCE OF NATURE.

INTERVIEWER Tina, are you disappointed that it took you 10 years to win a Grammy.

TINA No. It just took the world 10 years to catch up with me.

reply

The problem with MMBT is NOT Tina Turner. It's the sad fact that George Miller's partner, Byron Kennedy, died while location shooting and he was the magic behind it all.

reply

What? Can you people imagine how much worse this movie could have been without Tina Turner's performance? She looked absolutely magnificent, and the movie has bookends of two epic Tina Turner original songs. Get outta here!
