I was just wondering when it would be released on DVD. Many I have talked to have been looking for it. I just think the Paul Newman version doesn't have the life that the Don Johnson version does.

I just recieved my DVD copy today from this outfit. Works fine on my DVD player. It is a bootleg copy. Several places there is the FOX movie channel logo. However, since the owners of this movie have NOT seen fit to put it out on DVD and the original VCR tape is now out of production and so scarce that it commands in excess of $35.00 on eBay....I don't feel bad at all. It is better than nothing and I will use it until the owners decide to put it out on DVD.

Now it is September 2008 and no hints anywhere of a legal DVD. The site that sold illegal copies on DVD is shut down (for obvious reasons).
Considering some of the low/no quality movies (TV and otherwise) the are produced for sale on DVD, it is shocking that this superior version of Long Hot Summer is not available on DVD.
Some things are just unexplainable.
I saw only the Don J version. I thought the first part was ok, good script, BUT the second part was badly acted. I don't know who did the casting, it did an awful job. Apart for Jason Robards (marvelous actor) the rest of the cast was disastrous.

I've been checking for this title for awhile. When searching on Amazon under Movies/TV/DVD with Don Johnson I registered to have Amazon notify me when this mini-series title becomes available. At last HOPE!

Amazon Germany is releasing it on DVD in April 2014, languages: German and English. It's region 2, mind.

Bought a multi-region player last year cause I was tired of waiting for some titles to get US releases.
I was able to get the German DVD edition(Flammender Sommer) PAL region 2 from a US seller on Amazon - and the picture quality is very good/excellent - so much better than any of the worn out VHS copies floating around.
There are US sellers converting US BluRay/DVD players to multi-region players and they are not expensive.

The best place to purchase copies of hard to find movies is ioffer.com. I have not purchased this particular movie from that site, but it's often a good source when no other options are available.
