I just saw the ending on YouTube, but it cut off right after the guy stabbed his lover and himself with that steel rod and they both beam up to the ship. What happened after that? What happened to them?

the from above shot of them beaming up was totally ridiculous and made it seem like we were all dummies and couldnt figure out the obvious, as you see the sword drop and the extra large ball of light break thru the cathedrals dome...

After he stabs her and himself they fly up to the alien craft where they go into suspended animation as well as make a whole bunch of baby aliens. Take a look under them. In suspended animation they are standing on a pyramid of babies.

I always kinda figured the director and the editor must have been snorting mad amounts cocaine on the cutting room floor, because that ending made absolutely no sense and wagering the success on the movie on the simple fact that the audience can imply anything as a conclusion is about as stupid as the ending of the movie was.
shareMy friend saw it in theaters in college, and it was one of the very few times he ever smoked marijuana (beforehand). He said the whole experience seemed hilarious to him and he kept cracking up at inappropriate times, but actually he had a fantastic time because of it. He said no one else seemed to be enjoying themselves. He doesn't dare watch it again because it would spoil the good memory.
