Why this movie should be remade

I really enjoyed this movie and because I enjoyed it I think it should be remade, here is why.
1. Doing a re-make does not un-make the original, so if you love this film as is doing a remake should not be an issue for those who think the film is perfect as is.

2. I (like many others) see that the bones of this film (the frame work around which the film was constructed) are great bones, the story line of NASA doing a mission to learn more about Haley's Comet and then discovering that there is a spaceship hidden in the Corona of the Comet and deciding to investigate it since the Comet won't be back for another 75 years, is very cool, and there being an entire civilization within this 150+ mile long ship is very intriguing.

3. The special effects of the time and the budget of the movie made it so that things looked a bit cheap and campy,, also the acting and some of the story line seemed a bit weak at times which for some enhances the film but for others it detracts from the film.

4. While people are fed up with remakes and reboots it is usually because the remakes/reboots do not improve upon the original and therefore are seen as Hollywood being lazy or just doing a cash grab, BUT if you look at the few instances where Hollywood did it right, such as the "Star Trek" reboot, or the "Batman" reboot films, in those instances they were able to revive lost franchises and deliver some truly good quality films.

5. If you get a movie studio willing to pony up enough money to make this film right AND they get a great Director (James Cameron) AND they got the right cast AND retooled the script (just enough to fix some of the non-nonsensical aspects of the film) then I think this could be a great film and a huge money maker.

Again, I really did enjoy this film as is,, but there are flaws in the film,,, quite a few actually (and for some that is part of the films charm) but IF Hollywood is going to do more remake/reboots from the 80's then this is a film that I personally would love to see them reboot,, but only if they do it the right way.

I think if this is ever remade, I'd say stay closer to the book.

Never read the book, but the premise is what I like the best.

IN the hands of a great director, I think this movie could be great.

This film doesn't need a remake. It's perfect the way it is.

I agree! I love everything about this movie. The premise, the acting, the effects, the score, etc.. All great. I'm currently watching the director's cut now to see what was left out considering the theatrical cut sort of makes a large jump in events toward the end.

I think if they remake this film, they'll make the same mistakes they commonly do with other remakes. Too much CGI, bland script/directing, and whatever popular actors/actresses are around at the time instead of ones that actually fit the roles best.
