Pat Benetar thinks this is 'one of the worst movies ever made'

I was at the Rib-America Fest in St. Louis last night, and Pat Benetar was performing, and before she sang "Invincible", she told us that it was from "one of the worst movies ever made". Is it really? Haha.

Then her song sucks, because the movie made the song addicting.

reply

Did she really say that? Well, that prooves that one can be a great singer but have very bad taste in movies!

reply

She tours here every year and I usually go. Every time she performs the song, she makes a comment on how bad the movie is. Last year she said the song was from one of the silliest movies ever made.

reply

You would think she could be a little kinder since I'm sure she may receive royalties from the song being in the movie, I'm sure Holly Knight the songwriter does. Anyway, I like both the song, Pat Benatar and the film. It's a shame she thinks that about the movie, but she is entitled to her opinion.

One of the worst movies ever made? Hardly. I think Pat Benatar needs to check out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046248/

Just saw the MST3K version and boy is it bad (the movie, not MST3K's snark :P)

Talk about incompetent in every way...bad acting, a script that makes no sense, amateurish editing...etc, etc.

Pat Benatar needs to be sent into space ala MST3K and forced to watch TRULY horrible movies!

The Legend Of Billie Jean is NOT a bad movie. It *is* uplifting and feel-good. Some may say it's dated or cheesy - I don't care, '80s movies are fun. Much more enjoyable to me, than movies made today. Who doesn't love stories where kids rebel against a$$hole (I can't believe IMDB wants to censor that word) adults/authority figures? And Helen Slater is great at playing heroines (Supergirl is not a bad movie either...oh, so it's got "campy" villains? Well, so do the SuperMAN movies. All the villains act over-the-top so it pisses me off that Supergirl seems to be the only one criticized for it.) Okay, off-topic rant, sorry. :P

Anyway, I could name a zillion other movies that qualify as "worst movies ever made", more than Billie Jean.

Shouldn't Pat Benatar be more grateful to the movie for exposing people to "Invincible" (even if the movie wasn't a big hit at the time, many of us have discovered it, and her music, over the years of TV viewings or whatever)

Oh wait, she didn't WRITE that song, did she? (http://www.hollyknight.com/disco.html) So I guess Pat doesn't benefit much financially from having it used in the movie and can insult TLOBJ with no negative repercussions. Except that she's revealed her unprofessional and petty nature to the film's fans...and her ignorance. Watch more movies, Pat. And try not to alienate any more people who might otherwise buy your music. That's just dumb.

This movie was cheesy

"Said the woman performing at a rib fest"

This burn is still stinging 13 years later.

reply

It's a good burn

reply

Yep. Still tender!

Well, when I lived in Alabama twelve or so years ago, Alice In Chains, Fuel, Papa Roach and several other big acts played at a shrimp boil. It was a big deal with tens of thousands of people. That said, it's kind of in bad taste for Pat to dis the film publicly. It's a fun cheesy slice of the 80s, much like Pat.

reply

Yeah, I'm sure she's recieving a ton from the royalties. I mean, all the times this movie plays, all the sales from the DVDs that aren't even made. I wonder why she's even doing concerts anymore, since she can just sit back and let the royalties roll in.

Really, yeah? Christopher Plummer, who played Captain Von Trapp in The Sound Of Music, has been known to call the movie "The Sound Of Mucus".

reply

She probably isn't getting anything from the movie... it really all depends on how the contract was negotiated between Benatar and the studios that owned the master of the song along with the details of the contract between the studio and the movie producers. It is entirely possible that she gets nothing from the song now though may have to pay the actual writers of the song a small amount every time she performs it on stage. Remember she didn't write the song. Now the writers of the song usually have the best deal versus the typical artist that records a song for a label... even more true of an artist back in the 80's when she was popular.

“I’m sure she may”? Whoa, stiggy. Be careful with such strong statements😂

this movie made me remember her song. this happends to be a great movie, she must be on drugs.

My brother used to listen to nothing but Pat Benatar when we were kids. My mom hated hearing the tapes. She called Pat Benatar "The Screamer." I like the song, but I could give two farts less what she thinks about the movie for whose soundtrack she sang the song.

Oh yeah? Well I think PAT BENETAR is horrible.

No, I don't really mean that. I love Pat Benetar. But this is a pretty damn good movie, so that's kind of mean of her to say. My guess is, people *still* come up and ask her about the movie (which she had nothing to do with) instead of the song , so she got sick of hearing about it.

Pat Benatar is right, the movie was horrible.

The movie is like a train wreck. I can't help watching, no matter how bad it gets. I still can't say "Fair is fair!" without chuckling.

Of course, Invincible wasn't exactly one of her best songs either. If I was at a Benatar concert, and I heard her say, "Here is a song from one of the worst movies ever made." I would figure that it is a good time to take a restroom break. Hopefully, I could get back in time to hear her sing "Heartbreaker"

I do not appreciate all these negative comments you are all making about my Patricia! I will let you know that she is still on my short list of women who could tie me to a chair and give me the kind of discipline a filthy pig, like me, deserves.

I will add Helen Slater to the list too, but she would have to be wearing the scuba shirt. I would be telling her how I thought the Billie Jean was so cheesy that it should have been filmed in Wisconsin, and she would whip me and yell, "Fair is fair!".

The movie has a large cult following and was quite good for the time (sort of like how Pat's career was quite good back in 1985). Sure, it was a bit cheesy, but that about sums up the 80's.

That said, the fact she's now performing at county fairs and events such as the Rib-America Fest in St. Louis speaks volumes of her career today (or lack of).

reply

well said. 'fair is fair', didn't make me chuckle, it made me cringe. lulz.

LOL That kinda sucks knowing that you made a soundtrack to "one of the worst movies ever made"! HA

reply

Many horrible movies have had good songs.

Iron Eagle had some good Queen songs in it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre II had a good Oingo Boingo song in it.

I like the theme to Youngblood by Whitesnake.

Then there are all the Beatles' movies.

reply

That really sucks she thinks it was such a horrible movie! I love this movie, but to each his own

Everyone here needs to look at it from Pat Benatar's perspective though - she was at the height of her career when this movie came out, and this movie was not successful - and, let's be frank, it was not good. I love it, but I can admit it's not the "best" movie ever made, and audiences at the time clearly agreed, as it did not do well.

Think about it - it was one cheesy 80's movie that probably faded into the background amongst a lot of other cheesy 80's movies. It was the 80's, so nobody cared about it being an 80's movie. I'm guessing a lot of this movie's cult following, and lot of the people posting on these boards, are made up of people who have a certain nostalgia for the 80's and are thus seeing the movie through that lens. To Pat, this movie was probably a silly tie-in to one her less-successful singles...a blip on her career's radar screen. It is, however, odd to hear that she ALWAYS says something negative about the movie before she plays the song. She needs to get over it, it was 23 (!!!) years ago.

cheese and all.. yes, but ms. benatar is at "ribfest" about to sing "invincible" to who? she probably had everyone beat there on teeth count by at least 10. she's parading a song out from 20+ years ago to people who remember when it was on the radio as a new single, it isn't the crowd she needs to bash...

She needs to shove it. This movie was awesome, no not the best ever made but I loved it. I never got to see it back in the 80's and only just now watched it. Loved every minute of it. Good movie. As for Benetar...well like others have pointed out, why the hell is she performing at something called "Rib fest" and trashing a movie. She should think about what has happened to her career. Geez!

what does she know, she's not a movie critic (i don't think to much of that lot anyway), she needs to just stick to what she's good at -- singing songs.

i still like the song but I listen to the cover so I don't have to hear Pat-- the cover by Sinergy is better anyway!
