Whenever movie related websites come up with Top 10 fantasy movies they always bring up Legend and that it helped create Legend of Zelda.
Do you still believe in that where Legend helped created Legend of Zelda due to the story of forest knights, fairies, horned demons etc?
I had the feeling the two have lots in common. The feel of the main characters and their relation is extremely similar.
But I wonder if it's just a coincidence. Does anybody know for a fact if it really is the case?
I've heard this as a rumor, but aside from the medieval European style fantasy setting and all the tropes involved, the two don't have much in common. I think it's more a coincidence but I might be wrong.

According to Miyamoto and Tezuka, the game's designers, it was the desire to travel and explore when he was young and books like LOTR and the Authorian legend were their inspirations.
This is confirmed on wikipedia. I've seen an interview with Miyamoto saying basically the same thing. Here's the link -
