The Book

Has anyone else read the novel by Manuel Puig?

It's a long time ago now, but I do remember Molina telling Valentin the plot of several other films, including Val Lewton's 1942 "Cat People" and Valentin analysing them.

Most of Puig's work ("Betrayed by Rita Hayworth" for example) is about US cultural imperialism; the colonisation of the imagination by Hollywood and so on; interesting that Hollywood should make the movie.

I could best imagine Bertolucci filming the novel - Babenco didn't do a bad job but the film seemed a bit oversimplified to me.

The book's written in conversation style, i.e. there's no description whatever only two people talking which makes reading if not dificult, well, tedious.
