A little confused..

I just recently finished this movie, but some things aren't that clear to me.
First off, why do they shoot Molina, and why won't he tell them this "number"?
What kind of group is Valentin in?
And does Valentin die in the end? If not or if so, what exactly happens there?

Valentin isn't in a group so much as he is a revolutionary. Trying to overthrow the militarily led Gov't. there are several movies about South american gov'ts taking control of a country or being overthrown. I would recommend Missing with Jack Lemmon and Death and the Maiden with Ben kingsley and Sigourney Weaver. It's not like in this country where we "love" our gov't, but it's better than being in S. America in the 70's. As molina dies he refuses giving up the number because he realises the military gv't has bugged or somehow otherwise found out about the info he is to transfer, I belive this was obtained by torturing Valentin but we do not see that. so there it is. It was one of the first major films (at least being up for best picture) that had a gay man as a protaganist, in the end Molina has risen above his own life by loving Valentin and what Valentin believes in................
