Did anyone else think that those two prisoners had an entirely unrealistically spacious cell? The size of their cell was downright palatial!

I think so as well. However, my guess, is that the officials wanted it that way. They wanted Molina and Valentin to become close so Molina could befriend Valentin and find out about his comrades. This may have been hard in a crowded cell.
