The poop scene

Why did they put that scene in there?

reply

Seriously?
They put that scene in to establish a connection between the two main characters. One of them is in a vulnerable place at the time, the other steps in to take care of him. It is to explain the trust they've built and why their relationship developed into something more.
It is also done to show the horrible conditions and unjust treatment in the prison.

Why didn't they just show him catching a cold or something? That would have been less gross

reply

Well you don't catch a cold when you're being poisoned, you become violently ill. Secondly Valentin wasn't the kind of man who needs comforting when he has a cold or flu. *beep* yourself in front of your cellmate makes you incredibly vulnerable because it makes you look weak like an infant. Molina stepping in to nurture him showed just how much Molina cared for Valentin.

I know it's not incredibly pleasant but I found it to be one of the most tender moments I've ever seen in cinema. For anyone in the US or using a proxy server/DNS spoofer it's on Netflix in SD streaming.

I agree. My immediate reaction was that it was gross but then I just realised how caring he was. Plus it wasn't THAT gross, at least we didn't see any poop!
