Rachel Weisz?

I read she was suppose to be in this movie, but because of her age her parents said no. What role was she suppose to have in this movie, keep in mind..no, I haven't seen this one myself. Can anyone help fill me in?

AiZinger,

Of course David and Bathsheba had sex! It's one of the main events in the life of David. If they hadn't had sex then Bathsheba wouldn't have gotten pregnant and David would never have tried to cover it up and eventually have Uriah killed so that he could marry Bathsheba. Nathan would have never had his famous confrontation with David. David would never have written one of his great Psalms. King Solomon would never have been born.
What made you think they wouldn't have had sex?

Personally, I am inclined to believe that the fourteen-year-old Weisz was offered the role of David's daughter Tamar. If so, it makes sense that her parents would not be very keen on this prospect, given Tamar's fate in the tale. What fate was that, you ask? Read it for yourself and gasp! Small wonder that Absalom would do what he did for his sister afterwards (though in actual Scripture he was much less blatant about it).

P.S. How did we get onto this David / Bathsheba sex issue anyway?!

crselvz,

I assumed that the role that Weisz was considered for was Tamar as well. It's really the only one that makes sense.
The young lady that did end up playing Tamar in this film was Gina Bellman, who was about 18 at the time.
She would go on to play Michal - Saul's daughter and David's first wife - about 12 years later in a made-for-TV movie on the life of David.
14 is probably close to the real age for the real Tamar at the time of the tragic event in her life that Absalom would end up avenging. Michal was probably also around the same age when she married David.
As for the issue of how we got "onto this David/Bathsheba sex issue," I assume that it was first brought up in the post that has since been deleted by an administrator.
