Cussing?

I just recently watched this movie again after not seeing it in years. I loved it so much as a kid, and I still do, but I never realized they cussed (i.e. Sh*t) in the movie! I didn’t think most Disney Kid's movies had cuss words above "Damnit" or "Hell" in them. Anyone else find that strange? Especially when you remember this movie came out in 1985.

Yeah, same with me... My brother and I watched this movie over and over again growing up. I think it was probably on the Disney channel that we watched it, so maybe they edited out the language? I was surprised at how much there was when I bought the VHS recently. Still one of my favorite Disney movies, though.

I never noticed that there were anymore cuss words other than that one one time Natty was running after Wolf and she said, "Oh, s**t!" Where were they?

reply

Didn't Natty say "s---" while she was writing a letter to Harry? It was when she couldn't decide on how to end off the letter (love, natty? sincerely, natty?). And then she just wrote her first name.

I liked that scene

My sister and I watched this over and over again when we were younger (because we love John Cusack). I rented it about a year ago to show my kids, and I couldn't believe all the swearing! I didn't remember that at all. I think we must have had the Disney Channel version, taped off of tv.

charles martin smith ate a mouse in the Disney film Never Cry Wolf (1983).

That's because the 80's was before people started coddling and sheltering children to such an extreme extent. Sure, some parents did it, but it certainly wasn't the majority.

Surrpised they did not cut the word out when she said it when this was on Five over here to.

NATTY GANN represented a major shift for Disney. Press releases and reviews at the time noted the change. No more sugar-coating in their live action films. This depiction of the Depression was going to be more accurate than stuff like ANNIE or THE WALTONS. It was going to show the real horrors of the time. The decision was controversial but generally respected as I recall. Anybody else remember this about the release?

And for the record, I ADORE "Annie" and "The Waltons."
