Why did they even go to the mall?

Just saw this for the first time - maybe I just missed something, but was it ever explained why Chan, the witness, and the bad guys converged on the mall at the end? I'm glad they did, but I don't remember any explanation for it.

Edit: OK, I went back and I see now that apparently the bad guys' HQ was close to the mall. I'll leave this up in the interest of discussion, though.

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

A few other reasons why...

> Product placement. What better place than a mall to showcase and advertise a whole load of brands to raise revenue for the film producers and studios? Bear in mind that the film was made in the greedy ultra-commercial climate of the 80s in Hong Kong which was under British control and aimed to contrast vividly with Chinese communism. Plus it was the days of Thatcher and Reagonomics - lots of commercial crap going on...

> Stuntage. What a great place to pull off a whole load of audacious stunts, set-piueces and spectacular martial arts battles. Jackie Chan's genius often revolves around making quotidian objects come to life as lethal instruments and props of violence. A busy shopping centre is an inspired place to provide material foundations for fight sequences, as well as having the extra tension in the fact that it's so huge and full of people.
