Sound effects

I've noticed in some modern editions of Police Story and many other classic HK martial arts films like Encounters Of The Spooky Kind that the sound effects for the fight scenes are different and much weaker sounding in my opinion.

I can see they are trying to go for a more realistic approach but those classic Golden harvest OTT sound effects are part of the charm and the punches and kicks seem to lose so much impact without them. Of course it's mostly nostalgia talking on my part and it shouldn't really affect the film but when I watch Police Story I'm more inclined to dig out my VHS copy for the experience.
