I saw the 'Nile when I was about 5 years old, and fell in love with it instantly.
I didn't see it again until I was about 13, and was surprised to realise that I still loved it with the same passion.
When I was about 16, I came to learn that this was a sequel!! I was so surpised!! It works so well as a movie on it's own!!
Sufficer to say, I went out and bought both DVDs a few months ago :-P

reply

I love both at the same amount.

Great on screen magic with those three.

They are both perfect action adventure movies with comedy as well!
I love them both and yes, Jewel of the Nile is VERY underrated. It is the same fun as Romancing the stone. I am surprised that there wasn't a part 3 after this one. Cause both of the movies were big box office hits.

Ah well, anyone who doesn't like it can say what they want about the Jewel of the Nile, it stays one of my favorite movies! :)

While I am not a big Robert Zemeckis fan, it is clear NILE would have benefitted from his hand. Lewis Teague is not in the same league. In those pre-DVD days, however, we went to the movies to see sequels, even if they proved not to be up to the original. Now we usually wait for the DVD. Or the sequel goes STV. Sequels rarely equal the original. Let's face it. HOSTEL 2, I will make an exception for.

Certainly a misguided sequel.

Its that man again!!

reply

I agree. As sequels go, I think this one is excellent. Particularly good for showing what happens after the 'happy ever after' type ending of Romancing the Stone.

reply

This was terrible. The original director, Zemeckis wasn't in it and the creator/original writer Diane Thomas was busy writing Always and then died in a Porshe car accident.

Jewel was written by two men which is why it doesn't have the romance novel quality of Stone.

reply

Well, most romance novels end like romancing the Stone does. I think Jewel of the Nile is interesting because it shows what happens after the happy ever after style ending.

reply

i agree, it's a good film and far better than most sequels.
