Anyone else think Jeff Bridges was miscast?

Jeff Bridges was just way too nice to be believable as a calculated killer. I know that is part of the suspense but I still felt there should have been some inkling. There should have been something to make the viewer see that he could very well be guilty. Bridges made Jack so likeable that it was hard to believe that he was actually a murderer.

No. You are a unique snowflake, kitten. Next question.

reply

Yes, somewhat.

Back in the 80's.. Jeff would play a certain kind of character.
Hard to pin down.. Understated.. causious, abit offbeat even wierd.
So he was cast in a number of movies with that in mind.
He was the only actor I can remember that had a 'wooden' face with emotions.
But, in most movies he pulled it off... But in some, specifically this one.. there were many other actors who might have played it much better...

The 80's was wierd in a way.. many actors who did good didn't do so after that decade.. and the music, as many comments have stated, it pigeon=hole dates it so much.

What you just described is why he was so perfect for the role.

Remember what Sam Ransom (Robert Loggia) said bout Jack Forrester ''a guy like him, you never know''

I find that performance just unbelievably creepy. Rare performance of a sociopath where I actually think "that guy's 100% dead inside". his alien in STARMAN had more humanity than Jack Forrester.

reply

He was perfectly cast.

reply

Perfect! Like the tennis pro said, he was a master manipulator.

reply

Didn't seem that way to me but that bandage he wore around his head in the beginning looked really silly.

Though as a Yankee fan, I hate the Red Sox, I think BoSoxrule gets it right. Many sociopaths are quite charming and personable. They often use this to their advantage when dealing with victims. (Not all sociopaths are killers. Others are con men or just jerks in the workplace.) That's what Jack does. He seduces Teddy, who is convinced he is innocent perhaps because she slept with him and fell in love with him.

Look at Ted Bundy. He had the face of a choir boy and great manners. And he raped and murdered over two dozen women.

Amen, Yankee fan.

You get a real taste of his cold core when he is describing his wife's friend, "She's a real b1tch." He says it with such a snear and nastiness.
