The Aspect Ratio Of Invasion USA

I just managed to revisit the cheesy delights of Invasion USA just the other night on the MGM HD channel, it was great to see it after so many years but the one thing that was slightly offputting was the aspect ratio.

I could be wrong(most probably) but it looked like the old Academy Ratio used during the old Disney cartoons, Avenging Force played in the same format.

Does anyone know why MGM should play these two movies in such a strange way.

Wait a second, are you saying that MGM channel recently showed Invasion USA in HD? Why on earth I can't find this movie on the MGM HD channel schedule? :(
They should release it on Blu-Ray!

On the region 4 DVD I have it is 14:9, filling my TV exactly. Is that what you saw?
