Attempted Church Bombing *spoiler*

When the terrorists try to bomb the church. After it fails to go off, Chuck says "didn't work" & drops the suitcase in the middle of the thugs. But it looked to me like the wires got disconnected (tension?) after it hit the ground. Yet it still blew up after Chuck shorted two wires together.
