I think this is very underrated but I don't think any other Landis film comes close to touching "Animal House."

I HAVENT SEEN IT BUT I LOVE TO SEE IT

reply

easily the worst movie i have ever seen in my life.

You people are sick.

This movie is a horrifying relic of the 80's.

Thanks Don. Nice to know people are construed as sick just because they disagree with your opinion.

reply

I rated it tops and is still a careful constructed mechanism

Absolutely hilarious. You have a bunch of towel heads chasing pheiffer and Goldberg. English assassin with some frog and some ‘mothers’. Great cameos by famous film makers. A really great funny film, maybe Landis's best*

I think "American Werewolf In London" is his best film but this is among his best. "Blues Brothers," "Animal House" and "Trading Places" are his only other movies that I think are worthy films. "Kentucky Fried Movie" was fine for its time but I don't think it holds up. Besides that I think he's done only middling to poor films - basically nothing since "Trading Places" has been more than average and some have been downright poor.

I'd like to say that I somewhow missed this movie during the great 80s rentathons when I was growing up. I recently seen it on cable a couple months ago. I really enjoyed it. I don't know it is the best Landis film but it is another good movie by him.

"An American Werewolf in London" is his best in my opinion.

As much as I like Into the Night, I agree. It was scary and sexy with dark humor (not comedy) sprinkled in.

And the difference between humor and comedy is . . . ?

Into the Night is a good film, which gets bumped up (IMO) for all the director cameos. But none of his work beats Animal House.

reply

Yes, this is a great film which isn't known as well as it should have been. It reminds me of another film which is a Golan-Globus production. "Detective School Dropouts" which I cannot find anywhere. If you like this, DSDO is just a raucous slapstick chase with some great moments, but not near as good as this film.

Both 80s type comedic pieces.

CORRECTION? It looks like Amazon can make "Detective School Dropouts" on demand. It's a DVD made on demand released in 2011.

Not at all - it´s a far cry from the freewheeling, often very funny craziness of The Blues Brothers and don´t come very close to American Werewolf, either. Better than the massively overrated bundle of juvenile, unfunny teeny jokes Animal House, though. Not to mention the awful Spies Like Us.

Anyone who calls Animal House massively overrated and unfunny has no comedy credibility.
