Honestly, this is pretty much my favorite movie.

I mean it. This may be my all time favorite movie. Anyone else? Hello? Am I all alone?

I love this movie. It's not my all time favorite, but I adored it when I was a teenager and I still like to watch it now.

This movie is a typical 80's movie. I love it. Notice that all movies made in the 80's had the "sharp", "sexy" and "colorful" scene and actors. What I love the best is the way women/girls used to dress. In this movie, Michele is just stunning. High heels, tight jeans and red leather jacket, what a great style. I also like the square shoulders look of this jacket. I guess, there's a definite Miami vice influence on this movie. Notice something, this movie is kinda similar to the recent movie "collateral" with Tom Cruise. Although "Collateral" is definit tougher, notice the night into the city scenes. No surprize, Micheal Mann worked on Miami vice and Collateral. Back in 85, the influence was huge.

I love movie which takes place in the city at night. There's something "clandestin" about it. The lights, the reflections of the buildings and the low traffic make such an special effect on the action.

I remember that movie because 85 was the year I graduated and started to work. I used to go out a lot at night, and this movie is so typical of these nights (Although, I wished I could ran into a Michele back then....)

If you know movies with the action is taking place in the night, in the city, let me know.

By the way, don't hesitate to buy the DVD collateral and the "making of". You'll see what I mean about night scenes and how Mann takes it seriously.

"Into the Night": Great movie, great actors, great taste! I recommend!

If I had to make a list of my all-time favorite films - all genres - 'Into the Night' would definitely make the top five...maybe three.

I just got through watching it once again, and it's still great fun. I've probably seen it more than a dozen times, and I'm still picking up little cameos and in-jokes.

By the way, he's not credited, but is one of the two Federal Agents that Clu Galager shoos out of the room, before he steals some of the money on the bed, a considerably slimmer David Anthony Higgins (from 'Ellen' and 'Malcolm in the Middle')? It sure looks like him.

The Federal Agent you are referring to is actually film director Jonathan Demme.

Agree-
The incredible fact is that Landis managed to persuade all of Hollywood to CAMEO throughout the entire film! When you realize that the homeless old man in the alley telling him not to park there it will get towed away..is actually one of Hollywoods great screenwriters, he wrote Midnight Cowboy (homeless guy) & also Sepico ( man dresses like a homeless bum on the street) YOu soon realize Landis has landed perfect ringers for each part-,
I mean look ...The Guy with the dog who is shocked out of his socks when the elevator opens --is played by Jack Arnold-who directed The Creature from the Black Lagoon/ Peter Gunn /Mr Lucky and It came from Outer Space..Landis again puts a man who has shocked film goers to play the part of a shocked man- this is sheer poetry!
And then there is the Kalijak Publicist who asks Mazursky to look at which photo he likes best( there both *beep* played by one of Hollywoods best publicists...Saul Kahan who did PR for Landis on Blues Brothers/Animal House & Kentucky Fried Movie & Blade Runner-- this is no coinsidence!
Then there is the bodyguard who is none other than the one and only DON"T STEP ON MY BLUE SUEDE SHOES Carl Perkins ...like you really don't want to step on his toes at all!""
The list goes on ever face in this film is a Hollywood Legend...
ONE of my TOP TEN all time Films- Yes - ditto...

Landis is one excellent director, and was tickled that he himself showed up in cameo. It's like he was doing a mini-Altman casting. I was looking forward to seeing this movie as Landis was directing. There was one thing that took away from the movie: the chemistry between the main characters simply was not there.

I saw it opening night in Boston in a nearly deserted theatre. It was badly promoted (but this IS a difficult movie to market) and was a bomb. Still I loved it back then and still love it now. It captures the feel of the night better than any film I know. Also love B.B. King's song:)

NO...NO...NO...

WHAT IS THIS MOVIE REALLY ABOUT... A BURNED OUT GUY (OR SLEEP DEPRIVED) FINDS OUT HIS WIFE IS CHEATING ON HIM...NO CONFRONTATION (AND THE WAY IT IS EDITIED) YOU DON'T KNOW IF SHE WAS REALLY CHEATING ON HIM, OR IF HE WAS HAVING A DAYDREAM (WHO CARES ABOUT THIS ISSUE ANYWAY) HE RUNS INTO A SMUGGLER AND THE MOVIE ENDS WITH HIM TAKING HER TO THE AIRPORT?

WHAT DID HIS CHARACTER LEARN, CHANGE AND WHERE IS HIS LIFE NOW HEADED...NOTHING IS SHOWN...HE HAS SOME CASH FOR HIS EVENING OF ADVENTURE, BUT WHAT DID HE TAKE AWAY FROM THE ADVENTURE? A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP?
THE CAMEOS WERE A NICE TOUCH TO A SORELY LACKING SCRIPT...BUT ISN'T IT THE NORM FOR A CAMEO LADEN PICTURE TO BE LACKING SUBSTANCE...MAINLY A GOOD STORY...AND ISN'T THAT WHAT MAKES A GREAT MOVIE?

SORRY...THIS MOVIE DOES NOT DO A THING FOR ME,MAYBE I WATCHED AN EXTREMELY EDITED VERSION.

If you look on the surface, maybe I can buy that what you've posted is what you see. But look at what's going on in Ed's life. He's in a rut. In his marriage, at work, with his life in general. Nothing really *happens*. And a part of him knows it's not supposed to be like that. That he shouldn't accept it. That's why he has trouble sleeping.

Then he meets this girl, and things happen. Nothing "ordinary" is anywhere near him during this night, and he responds. He surprises himself by stepping up to the challenge. By growing into the role of hero and protector. Had you told him that morning he'd be negotiating with a foreign woman about where to find the crown jewels of her country and having to find a way to protect his own life as well as a woman he'd never met before, he'd have just smiled thinly and gone "huh...interesting.".

But by the end of this movie, you get a sense that he's come to life now. Not willing to settle for ruts. Not willing to accept a marriage in which he's been replaced (after a fashion). Not willing to slave in a job that means nothing to him.

To me, there's a lot of growth in this movie.

I'm glad to hear it as it's top 5 for me and i have seen it at least 20 times

This movie is the most delightful thriller-comedy in history, and the perfect movie to watch every night you can not sleep.

I will add that this film is also one of my 'guilty pleasure' films.

Just a thorouhgly entertaining film from start to finish that's totally plastered with proper cameos from directors to musicians.

I've seen it many times over the years and always look forward to the next viewing.

A very unique little piece of filmage.
