Why wouldn't Rosenberg run away?

In the scene where the SS officer declared him "unfit to travel" so that he wouldn't be resettled, why didn't Rosenberg take the offer and save his life?

I think it may go back to the conversation he had with Helmut earlier in the movie. When Helmut returns some of Rosenberg's books, he asks him why he doesn't emigrate to the US or England. Rosenberg's response was that he would not be able to find work and that he was much too German anyway, and he would feel homesick. In my opinion, Rosenberg would rather die in his country than "desert" his people.

Yep.

He probably felt it wasn't fair that he be spared the fate of his fellow Jews just because he taught a relative of a passbook inspector. He rejected that nepotism and willingly boarded the train.

Excellent summation, Bluehawk.

he was an idiot

I would say you are an idiot for making such a statement. How can you possibly put your self in his place and understand his motivations??? His character was 65 to 70 years old and German to the core.
