people are always hitting each other and and crying to themselves. the dunn character seems the only one capable of expressing love.

an hour and a half of totally unnecessary child abuse tacked onto what i'm sure was an utterly pointless religious education.

i started crying about 3/4 of the way thru and couldn't stop. what a sad, tragic film.

Not really sad, per se, but the fact that such a nice, quiet, unassuming kid all of a sudden becomes the target of a bully and a prim, malicious teacher that is all rod and no coddling.

It is deeply sad.
And it was also deeply true, based on that catholic culture in the 60's
the 50's I bet were worse.
