What your thoughts when there was talk about a sequel to THE GOONIES?
Personally i thought "it won't work."

I said it before and I will say it again, you will never see this made.

However, I think it would have to be done right if it was, or it would end up like a mess.

I do, though, still like this idea...

This is probably an unpopular opinion here, but if there is a "Goonies 2" at all, I hope and pray that Brand and Andi aren't together. I am really on the fence about whether or not there should even be a movie, but if there is, I like the idea of maybe Mikey getting a second shot with Andi.

Make Brand a contractor with three kids and a wife. Mikey is a museum director who lectures on the legend of One Eyed Willie. Andi is a New York fashion designer or something of the like. The Goonie kids have to reunite for something, and Mikey and Andi meet up again. Big brother Brand gives his blessing, and Mikey and Andi end up together...BOOM...

In the immortal words of Donald Trump...It would be HUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEEE!

Yay! The crazy person is here!

Was this recently? The actors are much older now, which would change the possible plot options drastically if they were planning on bringing them back.

Around late last year.

Here's my take:

At an Astoria town fair, a bunch of kids might wander off and witness something so government agents sequester them as material witnesses and a mess-up of communication causes no parents to be contacted by the staffer delegated to do so. As a result there is a yellow alert in Astoria and the parents who are now the adult Goonies from the original must lead a search. Their concern and community spirit would make an emotionally engaging treasure hunt that isn't quite copying what happened when they were kids. They might speculate about more serious dangerous predators out there, but an actual one should be avoided. If they took that approach, a Goonies II would work. No one-eyed Willy. No Sloth, but maybe they are visiting his fabled grave when they witness whatever goes down.

Going through the motions with a traditional pirate treasure map wouldn't work.

A remake would not work. That movie is in and of it's time and the characters should be followed-up as adults.

With this semi-serious approach, maybe Jeff Cohen will reconsider and be willing to update Chunk.

It definately won't work..the kids in their 40s now.

I certainly wouldn't want the original cast being in the background as parents while their kids go off on adventures. So really, whats the point of even making a sequel?

Either they come back in the lead roles or just forget it.

reply

100% agreed.
I read it was Corey Feldman and Sean Astin want to this sequel.
Even the director Richard Donner was keen but the ideas keep getting knocked back (this sequel won't happen folks).

Honestly they should just leave it alone, the original was a classic,so let it be & please no remakes or reboots!

That upcoming jumanji movie looks like it's going to be so annoying, due to their choice of actors. if they remake this or make a sequel of this, I hope they don't cast it stupidly.

At this point I don't want to see a sequel or remake. Can we learn a lesson from the current tragedy that was "Ghostbusters"?

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

I won't be good as the original the original actor who played chunk turned down a offer to star in the sequel but i would still want too see the sequel it's kind of late for a sequel but it can still happen the actors will be parents and their kids will take over but a sequel should have been years like in 1988 but the actors wanted too do other things so the sequel never happened.
