DVD release

I have looked everywhere for the the 2001 DVD release, & can't it anywhere at all! Is there going to be a DVD re-release date for this flick??

It's apparently on DVD as I was able to rent it from Netflix, but I don't know when it was released or where you could buy it (maybe on Amazon? or eBay?)

Found it new here but out of stock so there may be a long wait

You need to be careful when buying the DVD. As far as I can tell, the only thing out there now are bootlegs. Do not pay more than $20 or $25 for this movie unless you are 100% certain that it is the real thing. That being said, you can get a bootleg copy, that has all of the features of the original DVD release (there aren't many), cheaply. I bought a copy off eBay a few months ago for $10. I actually had a hard time figuring out if it was a bootleg or not because it was so well done. The case, which was wrapped in cellophane, looked so good that I thought it was real. Unfortunately it wasn't, but at least I have this great movie that I can watch any time I want.

I just picked up a copy that was region free, though apparently not a bootleg. It says it was manufactured by Fansnear Animation Inc. Japan, gives an e-mail and has a barcode, so I assume this is a legit release.

For those interested, I got this from thisisanime.com out of LA for $9. The release is virtually identical to the 2001 edition, so if you missed out then (mine was lost in a move), this may be the way to pick it up.

And yeah, when I realized my copy was gone and couldn't be replaced easily, it was rather devastating. A great movie!

Spend a 100 bucks on the 2001 release, buy it online.

If anyone's still interested, there have been articles stating that Discotek Media has licensed this film for home video. They haven't made any announcements about a DVD/Blu-Ray release yet, but one is probably forthcoming. Personally, if I find that their new release has a better transfer and brighter colors than the Central Park Media release, I may get a new copy.

The Conversations on Ghibli blog discusses it here. (Since the guy worked on Discotek's release of "Horus Prince of the Sun," I'd think him a reliable source.)

You can now purchase the Discotek DVD of the film now. They announced that a Blu Ray of this film could be released in the beginning of 2016. I still have the Central Park Media disc which I cherish (especially now that it's out of print haha), but I'm excited get a copy of the Blu Ray when it comes out.
