Ok, I just watched this movie a few hours ago. Not a terrible movie, I've seen worse. I'm just confused about the ending. What happens to Eddie at the end of the movie when he's riding off on his horse? Does May leave to go look for Eddie? Also, who was the woman always coming to the motel doing a shoot out?
shareDear Rita, I was confused by the ending as well. I think Eddie rode off and was "gone for good," and May left in the other direction to start life over. The shooting woman was "The Countess," I assume. She was the elegant woman--although she didn't look elegant--who was Eddie's lover before Eddie came back to find May. Incidentally, I thought the entire film was be a depressing mess, despite the top-notch cast and the fact that Altman directed it.
