I'll have a Bloody Mary and a steak sandwich and... a steak sandwich

Do you think he brought Fletch two steak sandwiches?

Also, what exactly is a steak sandwich? I'm from New Jersey and we have cheese steaks (or just plain steaks if that's your thing) which are shredded beef on roll. Is this that or an actual steak on a sandwich?

Something similar is said by Ed Harris in The Firm "Can we have two steak sandwiches on rolls to go." On rolls? What the hell else would they be on?

reply

Really? You're asking what a steak sandwich is?

reply

Its like a turkey sandwich, with steak instead of turkey.

reply

A steak sandwich is not sliced or shaved like a roast beef sandwich, it's an actual steak on bread. It's usually served open faced and eaten with a knife and fork.

reply

Rye bread is pretty popular among the shredded beef crowd.

My car just hit a water buffalo...

reply

You'd certainly hope so. He did after all order two steak sandwiches.

reply

It's a brilliant comedy line... channeling the spirit of Groucho Marx.

reply

Yeah, that's one of my favorite lines in the movie.

I know the OP is a ghost but in case he (or she) is lurking around MC under a different user-name, here's a picture of a steak sandwich - https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.aLIGfA4Ma8Dr2XkTDrB0GwHaFw?pid=ImgDet&rs=1

It's literally a piece of steak between two slices of bread. I used to work at a restaurant that served one. People would buy it and take it off the bread and just eat it like a steak. It was cheaper that way.

The one we served was bigger than the one in the picture though.. they're really good.

reply

What's the point of ordering on bread then taking it off? How is it cheaper ordered on a roll opposed to by itself?

reply

Steak by itself was more expensive than the steak sandwich.

People could just order the steak sandwich and take it off the bread and eat it as their entree.

Of course, the sandwich portion was a smaller piece of meat but people would still do it to save a few dollars.

Fenton's in Oakland, CA serves a great steak sandwich.

reply

Steak sandwiches are actually pretty hard to find in my area. I guess it's not a very common menu item. I don't think anyone around here serves one. Pity too, they can be really good.

reply

Unfortunately true. I've not had one since moving out of Oakland.

reply

The ones I've had recently were few slices of steak on white bread, maybe some a-1 sauce.
