What would happen to Alan Stanwyk if he killed Fletch anyway? Spoilers.

Alan Stanwyk had the plan to kill Ted Nugent who was actually Irwin Fletcher pretending to be a junkie under that fake name, around the end of the movie Fletch reveals that he knows about Stanwyk's plans because he has done his detective work and exposed it all, he knows about how his body would be burned and used to make people think he is Stanwyk etc, then he mentions that he has written the letter to Frank and the newspaper and will have them run it at midnight if he is not heard from again.

Alan Stanwyk almost decides to kill Fletch anyway even after learning all of this, and even after his wife shows up and reads Fletches letter too, because he says that extradition from South America was very complicated and for two murders it would be even more so, then Chief Karlin shows up and saves everyone to a certain extent and kills Alan.

Now what would have happened if Chief Karlin had not shown up and Alan Stanwyk had killed Fletch and his wife and fled to South America anyway? Surely he would be all over the news and become a wanted man in Rio, no way would he just live the high life and avoid punishment for the two murders, seems like Alan would be in trouble and might have to bribe some local cops in South America to avoid this.

What are your thought?

What could local cops do? They have no authority to do anything to him there.
