Jennifer Jason Leigh: sexiest medieval princess ever

Jennifer Jason Leigh is so damn sexy as Agnes. It's not just the cherubic face, or the long auburn curls, or her soft, shapely body (none of this aerobicized hardbody crap). She has a kittenish, baby-doll quality that reminds me a little of Carroll Baker, Tuesday Weld or even Susan George in Straw Dogs. Leigh looks so sweet, gentle and innocent that it's a shock when Agnes starts behaving like a naughty little minx, turning from a naive virgin princess into a tough, shrewd, manipulative, sex-hungry temptress who toys with the libidos of the men around her and uses her body to get what she wants.

I love the steamy sex scene between Leigh and Hauer in the whirlpool bath, or the seduction scene where she plays footsie with him under the dinner table while smiling at him angelically, like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. Leigh and Hauer have a really fiery, passionate sexual chemistry in this film. Interestingly, they reunited the following year in The Hitcher to very different effect, as anyone who remembers the horrific tractor-trailer scene will testify!

Yes yes yes. Jennifer Jason Leigh is absolute sex in this film. Such a perfect body, and she plays her part really well; as you say, there's a dangerous Lolita-type edge to Agnes. Even in the scene with her first love, she's still acting every inch the seductress.

And yes, the bath scene is hot!

If she was born in 62 and the movie was released in 85, I would say she was about 24-25 years old.

Nothing conflictive about her age.

Thanks for the replies guys. She was born in February 1962 and the film was shot in 1984, so she would have been 22 at the time.

Oh yeah Windypoplar, I've seen all those films and enjoyed very much, also I'd recommend – if you haven't already seen them – Last Exit to Brooklyn, Rush, Single White Female and Dolores Claiborne among others. She has given a lot of powerful performances in very different roles over the years. couldn't agree more! JJ is awesome~! She was so good in this part and yet from what she says, she didn't have a very good time making it. Apparently it was a location shoot and JJ was rather cold and uncomfortable the whole time. That said, she is lovely here. If ur a fan, check out "sister, Sister", "The Anniversary Party" and "The Love Letter" with Campbell Scott. All are excellent and she gives great performances in all of them.

I watched this again the other day, and my god is Jennifer Jason Leigh stunning as Agnes. As Martin says in the bath scene- "an innocent face but naughty feet"- I think that sums up the character quite nicely. Is it ever mentioned how old Agnes is meant to be? JJL's got the whole Lolita thing going for her...

Sorry, but part of the allure of the film was how ordinary she looked, especially in comparison to the gorgeous women already witht eh mercenaries.

I thought they did this on purpose, to show the vulnerability of the bluebloods. There was the super gorgeous woman who was frantic about the plague and prayed with the cardinal (pretty realistic if you ask me for someone who thinks she is going to get the plague), then the mother was easily the second best looking. Even the woman with Martin's baby was more attractive than Agnes. Agnes was very dull and pale looking.

In fact, only Martin and the mean guy really had the hots for her in the group (okay, so we know why two guys didn't have the hots for her), but these were mercenaries who killed all the men they could find and raped all the women they could find. Good old time soldiers.

It was obvious, I thought, that part of the realism of the film was in the way that when those of royal blood were taken out of their protective harness, they were really quite inadequate, which made Steven and Agnes even more the underdogs.
