A few things that didn't make sense *SPOILERS*

I really liked this movie's unflinching and somewhat realistic portrayal of life during this period, but a few things stood out as poorly thought out.

1. There is no way in hell they could've constructed that siege device that Steven constructs without taking months and doing it in a city where they had the materials to do so.

2. Unfortunately, European society at this time was extremely misogynistic, and as soon as Steven found out his future bride had been raped and was thus not a virgin, he would've considered the marriage pointless and not bothered to conduct a mission to get her back. This is a sad but true reality, as the bride of a nobleman being a virgin was in 99% of cases non-negotiable, save for the few occasions where a noblewoman's husband died and she was re-married for political alliance purposes.

I thought the movie was pretty well thought out aside from that, though I know there are many other things people have posted about that are also anachronistic - the most obvious being that once people drink the plague water they die way more quickly than would've been the case. I guess you have to expect that though. That being said, they also did use some historically based devices, such as the use of the dog corpse to shoot the plague into the castle. This was done on several occasions, using in some cases, human bodies. I thought that was a nice (but morbid) touch. I also like the way they show how easily led so many people were by superstition, though I think I would argue that is still largely the case today.

Any other thoughts (agreeing or disagreeing, or discussing other scenes) would be welcomed. :)

I guess they wanted to show the brutality and reality of the era's time by having Agnes raped, no princess bride here. Steven marched to the beat of his own drum. Originally he didn't want to get married. He wanted a scholastic career, he fell for Agnes for her intellect, her being attractive also helped. Steven could care less about protocol, he was a realist and wanted her back. The father was ruthlessly, he put such work in getting her and viewed Agnes as property, she now belonged to him.
