The Ending

Anyone else 'sides me like the ending where Martin is walking off in to the mist? That deserved a movie of its own: Martin is walking off in to another adventure and that gorgeous music is playing, just perfect.

Yeah I rather liked how it ended.

I loved how it ended. If Martin had died, a part of Agnes would have died. We all know he was the one she really loved. He represented real, animalistic passion; while Steven represented the fairy tale that all women dream of. She loved Steven because he was the classic hopeless romantic. I love how Verhoeven messes with the archetype of the hero in this film. On paper, everything about Steven's character says you should root for him; he's smart, heroic, and just (other than the whole plaguing-the-well thing); but Martin is instinctively easier to root for in every way.

Unlike a lot of people, I like the character of Steven. The part where the contraption unfolds is one of the best parts of the movie (second only to Martin stealing Steven's idea and rolling a barrel under his contraption! SO classic!)

I thought the ending would have been a lot better if Martin would have walked the direction Agnes was going (rather than the opposite direction).

I would have liked a sequel. Or a few of them; featuring Martin's further adventures.

I agree, it would have been interesting to have seen more medieval adventures of this character. Maybe 10 years ago they (Martin, Steven, Agnes) could have all met again in a scenario and been forced to band together against an invasion or something.
