The most easy to invade castle in history?

Let's see... one mercenary and a princess get down through the fire, run past an entire battalion of soldiers and manage to open the gate. Then, all the guards are defeated in a matter of seconds without a single casualty on the peasant's side, and the takeover of the building is complete. Give me a break! If all forts were THAT easy to conquer, I'm surprised they bothered having security at all in the middle ages. Obviously, the firms they hired weren't worth a single penny!! Love the film though...

Yep - security was definitely lacking. Also, obviously hot air didn't rise during the middle ages or they would have been cooked alive trying to come down the chimney. Almost Monty Pythonish in its simplicity....

reply

Well, you can actually travel down a chimney and the castle had virtually no guards; these were obviously poor nobles.

The plague may have killed many in the castle or the guards may have left due to the contamination. The castle also seemed rather small and was not of the upper socio-ecconomic castle sthat we may have become acusstomed to. In medieval times there were all sorts of castles. I could imagine there being poorly guarded castles at certain times, especially during the plague or harsh ecconomic times. Guards have to be paid.

reply

There were many smaller castles out there that just belonged to Lords.
Not to mention They would't really need many guards there when they weren't at war.
But yeah the security was lacking...But as said before, if the plague was there most people had probably left.

no doubt the scale of the conflicts and the timelines (i.e.they get sick within seconds of exposure to plague) are -way- off in this, yet its so cool overall i did not let that bother me.
