ironic scenes

Anyone find it ironic that Mary Tyler Moore is really an alcoholic plays a person who drinks. She is also in real life a diabetic, but we see her eating an ice cream sundae.Also Robert Preston says that he could offer her only 10 years, but in reality, he dies 2 years after the movie was made. Lastly, we hear the gun go off and she thinks Robert Preston"s character kills himself,and in reality her son does kill himself with a gun. I know this is just a movie, but i wonder if any one else noticed this.
