Dom

what a movie.
i remember the first time i tried to watch this...i was too immature and turned it off within 15 minutes. what a silly girl i was.
now older(sadly) and wiser(thankfully), i now own the VHS and loan it only to those i think might appreciate the beauty of this film.
perhaps the only time i have seen Kevin Costner and liked him.
it's strange to say but this movie brings back memories i never had (boy that does sound dumb)....see, the thing is, i knew all those guys in the car...not exactly but i had friends that remind me of those characters.....we drove around, listened to cool music and had a "devil may care" attitude with us always.
the wedding scene is my favorite, especially the stone soup quality of it.
the tree lights, the Pat Metheny song...it was magic. It IS magic.
I probably have a much higher emotional investment in this movie than most people and that's ok.....i just hope it comes out on DVD someday....i'll celebrate with Dom.

Great movie!
I understand your point of view, especially talking about friends and driving around with them, listening to cool music and having a devil may care attitude!

Let's celebrate with Dom ;)

completely understood...when i was a teen and saw it, i mostly just watched for the funny antics including and especially the parachute jump...priceless! but when i got older, i just plain got the movie. and it jerks a tear or two from me everytime i watch it...especially at the very end as Costner's character slowly fades away...as do friendships many times. guess that's why i've always had more of a problem letting go than do most people i know...i just don't wanna see it come to an end.

Oh honey, it is bad enough to loose friends. It even worse to loose a husband (wife for you). Do what you have to do to keep that from ever happening.

Costner's best:

Fandango
Open Range
Field of Dreams
Silverado
Dances with Wolves

Not a fan of much else he's done.

reply

Definitely, Fandango's a great film. I also - lend it out to friends. And I always think about it when I take road trips.

We gotta go dig up Dom.

reply

Hey don't forget Waterworld and Prince of Thieves, both from the same director as Fandango!

I wish I had friends who like that. I would love to drive around, listen to music with a "devil may care" attitude. But sadly 2006 is a lot different. I was born in 1992, wish I wasn't. I'll celebrate with DOM. Cheers.

I can relate. This movie surprisingly reached me more than was prepared for.
Favorite line - Cosner: "That all love is really...thoughts."
First time I saw it, 1991.
