F/X Remake

There were reports despite it's financial problems MGM had announced plans to remake this with Mandel back as director in 2010. I guess it fell through since nothing has come of it since. It won't surprise me one bit if some other studio picked it up since it's trendy for reboots and remakes has been plaguing Hollywood for the last decade. It also won't surprise me if they screw this up with emphasis on high budget flashy CGI effects over what the original did with practical effects which one of the charms the original has even over it's own sequel... something that was real, plausible and that works in real life.
