stupidity of Tyler

Ok one bit got me. After the faking the death of the mob guy, Tyler is telling the girlfriend he thinks he really killed him because he saw Lipton messing with the gun earlier. Ok you see someone messing with your prop gun that contains blanks, the blanks you need to pull of NOT killing the man for real, and you don't check the gun again just to make sure it really has the blanks in it? If they HAD actually switched the blanks for real bullets, he would DESERVE to arrested on sheer stupidity alone.

reply

he would also know he shot real bullets by the recoil in the gun. blanks have ZERO recoil, which is why a gun never jumps in a movie.

reply

Plus, he would instantly know by weight. I'm sure that was his gun, he would notice if there was lead adding a bunch of weight to it.

indeed.

He pulled the trigger a bunch of times in a very stressful situation. People immediately try to kill him afterwards. He probably started to second guess if one of those shots had been real. Your mind can play tricks on you when everyone wants you dead.

reply

It is plausible that he began to have doubts when everything did not go by the book. Even if he "knew" it did not feel like he was firing live ammo, anybody might start rehashing the details and begin to suspect something went wrong.

Re-watching it right now

It's a revolver

When Lipton looks at it it is unloaded

AS a professional he would load the gun with HIS blanks, NOT someone elses

I also love how Tyler immediately calls Mason for help after Lipton tries to kill him in the car. He wouldn't remotely think that Mason would have been in on it?

I don't know, the two "F/X" films are about illusion, so I agree with the previous comments that mentioned that this film IS about second guessing, for every character. I mean, it's special effects, anything can happen, and ordinary people aren't always rational. I think these films are a treat; sure, you can view a film with special effects, but when do you ever view a film ABOUT special effects?
Remember, Rollie is messy, but fun at parties:-).
