Rip off of episode of Galactica 1980?

Is this movie a rip-off of the episode of Galactica:1980 where Starbuck is marooned and he befriends a Cylon? Or are both a rip-off of some earlier common source?

reply

Star Trek Enterprise did it too..

reply

I've seen that one too, what a huge rip off...

It is a short story by Barry Longyear and was published in 1980 if I recall correctly.

But I do know that the Starbuck episode was the last episode of the real battlestar galactiga. Galactiga 1980 was a different show with lower budget, worse cast and worse screenwriting.

Enemies forced to coexist is a very old theme.
I Dare you to make less sense!

Haven't you people ever heard of John Boorman's movie "Hell In The High Pacific"?

reply

i was just about to reply that i saw a movie about an american stranded with a japanese pilot. i gather that was hell in the pacific?

The episode in question, "The Return of Starbuck", was the last episode of Galactica 1980, NOT the last episode of the original Battlestar Galactica.

Who would want to rip-off that piece of garbage. Galactica 1980 was a waste of film. Besides, I do not remember(I hate to admit I remember at all)the Cyclon giving birth.

reply

Oh boy, get your facts right! The BSG80 episode you're talking about was admitedly inspired by (ie: ripped-off from) the short story from which this film was adapted, and not the other way around!

Remember the King!

Nope, Angella gives birth. She was the pregnant human female that the Cylon brought back for Starbuck. It's pretty much the same thing.

Ooo, baby, your domestic gross is SO BIG. That's how I know how GOOD you are!

That episode wasn't from Galactica 1980. And it was the best BG episode ever.

..................The movie was inspired by another film; "Hell in the Pacific" (1968) about a downed US Navy pilot who has coexist with a lone Japanese soldier on an island during World War Two. That doesn't mean "Galactica 1980" didn't appropriate the same idea from the same movie.
True genius is a beautiful thing, but ignorance is ugly to the bone.

Yes it was. It was the last episode (and only good one) of Galactica 1980. It was titled "The Return of Starbuck".
