The Dracs are the Communists?

As with a majority of sci-fi from the 50's to the 80's, this is an American meets Russian type story?

reply

That's a pretty interesting thought, especially because the way I remember it neither the humans or Dracs are really bad guys(Except the human miners of course, which adds another interesting part, unregulated capitalism? Maybe I'm reading too much into it.). If that is the case it's nice that neither side are just all-time evil.

reply

Yeah - unregulated capitalism - that's good. Thanks for responding :)

Since when are pirates expected to be good-guys? I took the pirate miners for what they were--pirates.

reply

no, this is movie is interracial propaganda. Dracs are blacks, its obvious. White and black (drac) live together, drac gives birth to child, white raises child - interracial mixing, homosexual partnership, and different race child adoption propaganda all in one. Human pirates represent slavery guilt. This movie is totally sick. I nearly got physically sick, watching this and turned this piece of c**p off; disgusting!

judantis, you are a dinosaur. You live in a world where it is no longer okay to be racist. So the whole world is moving on, and you're not and this is probably just going to make you more and more miserable as you watch the world become more and more diverse. Your "beautiful" all-white world is just slipping away isn't it? Tch.... too bad for you.

It's ok to be racist. Why do people only support opinions they find to be PC while claiming to be accepting of others beliefs?

Actually no it's not OK to be racist. Although I will fully support your right to spew a load of hateful drivel that does not in any way suggest that I accept your belief.

You can have that antiquated notion as a personal opinion all you want, however the Constitution and the collective understanding that racism directly led to countless Civil Rights violations means that the law will harshly punish anybody who acts on such an antisocial antiquated opinion.

PC has nothing to do with it - it's simply the fact that society has evolved but your upbringing for whatever reason dragged your perspective down like an anchor to hold the views that would have been not uncommon to somebody of a number of generations ago - but this is not what the vast majority of Americans feel anymore.

Basically, we tolerate your mental disease (most often caused by brainwashing during childhood) as long as you do not actually act on it - but if you do then all fury will come raging down on you. Just accept the reality of the situation and don't expect us to sit back when you say hurtful stupid things. You may have a right to say stupid things, but you do not have the right to not have us remind you how stupid that opinion is. You certainly seem to think that you can assault the concept of PC, and it works both ways when you suggest that racism is OK.

To be "politically correct" simply means not intentionally insulting, hurting, or disrespecting people you do not know.

If you were complaining about words or actions that insult other people because you did not know it was an insult, then you may have a point. But sounds to me like you're complaining about using a belief that you KNOW is an insult to somebody. Dunno what your mama taught you, but PC or not, that there's just being a rude piece of *beep* And not only is it an insult, it's also a prelude to genocide.

You might as well say that we should consider it okay to be a terrorist, because the "cause" is just an opinion, even if it advocates for the violent death of billions of people.

So yes. It's okay to be racist. It's also okay if everyone else views you as an dangerous ignorant *beep* for being so.

reply

Based on when the movie came out, is it propaganda, or a writer's vision of a future where race and sexual orientation simply does not matter and humanity looks more at all the things we have in common instead of superficial differences?

I'd say the latter, I still have an inkling of hope in humanity.

reply

total ignorance. there is nothing wrong with interracial marriage or homosexuality, we are all just people. once you learn this the world will be better. i physically got sick reading the CRAP you wrote. disgusting.

You my friend need to be STERILISED... and your *beep* TONGUE needs to be CUT OUT OF YOUR *beep* FILLED SKULL... and THEN you need to have ALL FOUR OF YOUR *beep* LIMBS REMOVED! You are NOT worth a *beep* BULLET! You need to die a SLOW and PAINFUL DEATH!!! SICK *beep*!

is your village missing an idiot? this film is based on Hell in the Pacific.

You are correct.
People trying to find politics in everything are just giving away their own political beliefs.
But that does not make any of these characters part of any political party.

I am a signature. Call me George.

That book Jerry's constantly studying and reciting looks an awful lot like a Quran, so...

reply

Uhh, how, exactly? What does a Quran look like? Here's a picture of the 'Talmon', perhaps you could explain how it looks like a Quran over, say, a Bible, the Torah or the Upanishads:

No, this is not one of those. You can more or less take this film at face-value.

Decent people shouldn't post here. They'd be happier posting somewhere else.

No doubt, the movie contains a political and ideological context, but it leans more towards colonialism and the dichotomy of oppressed and oppressors, rather than a meeting between two representatives of superpowers. I get the impression that the Dracs are something between Muslims or blacks, if they represent race or religion group at all. If, as you said, the Communists indeed represent the Dracs, it becomes a full-blown Communist propaganda, as the humans are portrayed more negatively than the Dracs. However, I don't think there's any concrete evidence for that interpretation.
