Worth a fresh look...

I recently re-viewed this movie after seeing it for the first time almost 20 years ago. Some old impressions before watching again: Great movie, beautiful cinematography, worthy direction, supernatural sequences distract from otherwise believeable story, overdone environmental theme. I am a bit more sophisticated as a movie critic now(I hope) so my new running impressions as I watched: Earnest acting, still immensely entertaining and engrossing despite flaws (read on),still great cinematography, would have been a classic with a better script, daring use of nude "actors" to tell the story,a long stretch invokes "Deliverance" -on-the- Amazon (another Boorman classic), supernatural sequences fit in the context of the halucinogenic tribal ceremonies (and remined me, incidentally of Pink Floyd's "Learning to Fly" video), movie dips into unecessarily stylized "Rambo"-type action at times, environmental message is well integrated if not based on a romanticized notion of life in the rain forest, made me want to turn back the clock on the wholesale destruction of the rainforests, also made me wonder what it would be like to live the idyllic life of the Invisible People I saw on the screen.
