How was this PG-13?

I just saw this for the first time on the Scream Factory DVD combo. I loved the movie and the fact that these awesome Empire movies are finally being brought to a current format is *beep* amazing. The opening scene of this movie shows a frontal shot of a fully nude women in a scene that also includes a sexual encounter. Don't get me wrong, I am all for this in a Sci-Fi/Horror flick. How in the *beep* did this get a PG-13 rating with that opening scene though? I have never seen this before.

I was wondering the same thing when I watched the DVD I got of this. There really isn't any language present and no really bad gore scenes through this one, it literally is that opening scene that is the only reason it would have been an R. Still, it was full frontal, so I can only assume it may not have been in the original cut as I saw this as a kid in the theater, and when I watched the DVD I had no recollection of that scene. The only explanation, PG-13 was a new rating when this one was released and they didn't have automatic R ratings back then so perhaps they felt the rest of the film didn't add up to an R. Though I think the scene not being present was the more likely reason.

That's what I assume. The DVD wasn't re-rated.

The opening scene with the nudity wasn't on the VHS, and probably not the theatrical release either. The scene is pretty tacky and weird, so removing it didn't take anything away from the film. Except maybe a possible R rating. They were trying to attract DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS fans, which were probably the younger crowds, so a PG-13 may have been necessary in their case.

Yeah, sounds about right. I'd have remembered a full frontal scene as I also saw Return of the Living Dead in theaters and Trash dancing nude in the cemetery really stuck with me. When I saw the nude scene in this one I was completely perplexed, I didn't remember anything from that opening scene.

Yes, I did venture to the theater to see The Dungeonmaster in it's theatrical release and I can confirm that it did not contain the pre credit dream sequence.

I saw this on cable in the UK in the mid 80s (cable was called Cablevision back then) and it had the dream sequence. Certainly had an impact on me when I was twelve.
