DREAMCHILD a sequel to 'Alice?'

Included in the recent DVD of Jonathan Miller's 1966 ALICE IN WONDERLAND is a 1965 BBC TV film called 'Alice'. Directed by Dennis Potter, this starred George Baker as Charles Dodgson, Deborah Watling as Alice Liddel, David Langton as Rev. Liddel, and Rosalie Crutchley as Mrs. Liddel (knowing something's up while her husband is blind). Its an interesting prequel to Potter's DREAMCHILD. Both have similar scenes (Dodgson giving the book to Alice with his love, Wonderland scenes, the last picnic with Dodgson reciting the poem before Alice and her beau), but its in Dodgson's (and the Liddel parents') POV whereas DREAMCHILD is in old Alice's POV.

Cool, I'd like to view it. Is it as good as Dreamchild?

Dreamchild is really a remake, somewhat reimagined, of Alice. The play, presented as it was broadcast on BBC is brilliant. I enjoyed it more than the 1966 Brit version of Alice in Wonderland, which it appeared with as a dvd extra. The AIW movie was beautifully hallucinogenic but kind of dry. The play was full of emotion. The character of Dodgson/Carroll was brilliantly portrayed and his intentions regarding Alice are left to the viewer to sort out. He appeared to have a kind of childlike innocence about him (as befitting the creator of the fantastic book) yet some, particularly Alice's mother, were deeply suspicious of his motives. Anyway, it's a great play/movie, a must-see.
