Desperately Seeking Susan TV series have worked?

So the late 80's into early 90's, it seemed every major hit movie at the box office was turned into a TV series weather a sitcom or a cartoon series.

One movie from that era that I thought could has a weekly TV series was Desperately Seeking Susan. How would you based a TV series based on that movie and could it has worked. Was it so dependent Madonna and her name that it wouldn't work?

Could it worked as mid to late 80's first run syndication or early Fox TV series for a couple of seasons, I think that is the longest self life you could have hoped for.

Obviously you need the right person to play Susan, you get the wrong actress for the role, it is doomed. I don't know who you could have gotten, but assume they found someone who could fill Madonna's shoes.

The concept of the series could have gone many direction. One direction you start from where the movie left off, and Roberta has left Gary to be with Diz, and have Susan and Roberta go on these adventures, though find a way to incorporate Gary and his sister, and her boyfriend into the series, one of the important of DSS was going between the yuppie world of the 1980's and the downtown village of the 1980's, Roberta having left Gary, left that world, so we don't have the gate way to the upper class yuppie world.

Or have a new board house wife from the upper class suburbs take a interest in Susan's life. Only have her stay married, and have balance her regular life and her secret life in Susan's world.

Or this one I think I would do, make it just about Susan and her adventures, have it be a semi anthology series, Susan being the only regular character on the show, and every week she meet these new characters and go on adventures. Susan is a wild child that goes on adventures from time to time, so it be in character. And every episode has a effect on somebody's life like she did Roberta. And every episode can be book note with her writing a personnel ads about her adventures for her friends to read.

If said show had happened and it was first run syndication or on the just strted Fox Network, could have gotten "Into The Groove" or they wouldn't be able to afford it. Or have another Madonna song, maybe "Spotlight" perhaps?

I am surprised giving making movies into TV series was such a big thing, why not do it with this movie, and try to get some left over from Madonna popularity.
