The Original R-Rated Edit

Does this early version still exist? Or is it lost forever?

The Godfather Part II:Greatest Ever

We're gonna raise more hell than Hellraiser.

Susan Seidelman has the R-Rated cut, but I don't think it was ever released. I was extremely disappointed she didn't have it available for the DVD release. Technically, it's Madonna's fault it was never released as an R-rated film. At the time it was being made, most of Madonna's fans were teenage girls. Orion pictures decided to try profiting off of that little fact and made the necessary changes for a PG-13 release so they could boost box office sales.

I would love to see the uncut version of this film. The pinball scene was a lot longer and more graphic, and there was a whole scene we didn't get to see from Roberta's birthday party. There was more adult language too. I hate censorship, so I am quite annoyed by these things...especially since this is my favorite film of all time. Susan Seidelman said that there was a lot of footage that ended up on the cutting-room floor. I cannot believe no one cared enough to preserve that footage. Very sad.

you are wrong! most of Madonna's fans were NOT teenage girls but gay boys! i was one of them! bitch!

I'm straight and I liked Madonna. Then again, I was always a straight boy with gay boy tastes!

She's always had the gay boys but when she first got huge, i.e. when this movie was being made, it was because of teenage girls. So in order to make money off all her new teeny bopper fans they edited this movie down a little from what it was initially supposed to be.

I can't imagine there's that much difference though. Maybe just a few more swears and a clearer view of Rosanna Arquette's rack.

You are right about the teenage girls, they were what made Madonna big back then. Look at the Virgin Tour vid, that hall is full of teenage girls.

As for the R-rated version, I'm glad we got the movie we got. Who cares about more nudity? I'm not a prude, but would it have add anything?
