how did the father

kill him self lol i saw the movie and read the book but i kinda fell asleep in class

I can't remember exactly, infact I don't think that you actually get told specifically how he dies at the end of the book/play. I think all that happens is you know that he goes off in his car... possibly a car crash. It shouldn't take you long just to flick to the end of the play and find out, I'm not being nasty, I'm just saying :-)

reply

Yeah. He crashes the car and kills himself. It's foreshadowed in the very first scene when he comes home and Linda asks if he has crashed the car again. And when Biff and Happy are discussing it.

I have only seen this version of the movie and I don't think the car crash idea is correct from it.

The suicide by crash was mentioned in the early part of the story but in the last house scene we a given a glipse of the rubber hosing then we hear the voices as they are surrounding him. He does leave the house in a car with Ben to find wealth but I think that is simply a metaphor for him leaving the world. If I believed in gods etc I'd say the Ben was the devil tempting him but I don't believe in devils either so I won't. LOL.

During his final scenes with Biff, you could see he was so touched and convinced that his son will become 'big', ultimately missing the real points Biff tries to put forward. As a result, he decides to kill himself, which has been hinted and referred to throughout the whole play, because if the car crash looked accidental enough his family would be rewarded a hefty sum from his life insurance. This would mean Biff could achieve the dreams that he was unable to attain.

How the *beep* can you fall asleep during Death of a Salesaman?!

reply

i fell asleep too :P
im just looking for the movie so i don't have to read anymore

he crashes his car. look at the stage directions just before the requiem

The sad part is that it had been documented that the wrecks he had over the last year were not accidental. They even had the testimony of a woman who saw him run into a bridge and into water on purpose.

His death would be proven to be suicide and the insurance company would not give his family any money.

Also, he must have felt like even more of a failure because he had tried to kill himself in wrecks and kept failing. Poor fella.

Just read the play recently and I'm pretty sure it was a car crash. He drives off into the middle of the night.

Some people count sheep. Doesn't work with AlwaysCool, just gets him excited.
